Logo CERTH

The Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organisation under the auspices of the General Secretarial of Research and Technology of Greece (GSRT), with its head office located in Thessaloniki, Greece. CERTH’s related areas of R&D activities include: semantic multimedia analysis, indexing and retrieval, Semantic Web, knowledge structures, ontology construction, reasoning and personalisation for multimedia applications. CERTH has participated in more than 70 EC IST and 85 National projects and sub-contracts. Over the last ten years, the ITI research team has authored over 200 publications in scientific journals, 65 books and book chapters and over 500 presentations to international conferences. The Multimedia Group of CERTH-ITI involved in MULTISENSOR currently coordinates the FP7 ICT IP SocialSensor and the Dem@Care. In addition it has and had leading roles in the FP7 ICT IP GLOCAL, FP7 ICT IP LinkedTV: “Television Linked to the Web”, FP7 ICT STREP PESCaDO “Personalised Environmental Service Configuration and Delivery Orchestration” and in the FP7 audiovisual search engines Coordinated Action “CHORUS+”. CERTH-ITI has extensive experience and expertise in semantic, multi-modal multimedia analysis and retrieval as well as in content representation, as a result of its participation in the aforementioned and other research projects. CERTH-ITI also participates in standardisation activities and is very active in the organisation of related scientific conferences, including the 2nd ACM Workshop on Events in Multimedia 2010, and ACM CIVR 2009.

Project role:

CERTH-ITI is the coordinator of MULTISENSOR and is hence responsible for project management. In addition CERTH will be strongly involved in research activities such as semantic content integration, topic detection, as well as semantic multimedia analysis and retrieval.

Responsibilities:

  • CERTH is leading the WP1 (Project Management) and WP4 (Multidimensional Content Integration and Retrieval).
  • CERTH has significant contribution in WP2 (Multilingual and Multimedia content extraction) by performing multimedia event detection. CERTH is also involved in WP3 (User and Context-centric Content Analysis) by supporting social media analysis and in WP5 (Semantic Reasoning and Decision Support) by participating in knowledge modelling. Finally CERTH will contribute in WP7 (System Development and Integration) and WP9 (Dissemination and Exploitation) by supporting system development and dissemination respectively.
